An Ambitious CSR Function with a Growing Data Problem
With Liberty London’s own-brand collections rapidly expanding, the CSR team was under pressure to scale its processes for supplier mapping, onboarding, and due diligence. Managing everything in spreadsheets was no longer viable. There was a clear need for a smarter, more connected system that could support both day-to-day operations and long-term transparency goals.
“We were tracking everything in massive spreadsheets,” said Stacey Pham Allcott, Head of CSR at Liberty. “It wasn’t scalable. The data wasn’t secure, and it was hard to keep everyone aligned. At the time, it was just me managing it all, but that system quickly became unsustainable.”
The drive for more transparency and responsibility in sourcing began in response to modern slavery legislation in the UK. Over five years, Liberty built a CSR function from scratch, but with no central infrastructure, staying on top of authorizations, audits, and remediation became a daily struggle.
The Decision to Choose Retraced
Liberty’s journey with Retraced began unexpectedly – on the supplier side. That initial exposure made a lasting impression. When the time came to choose a vendor platform for Liberty’s own supply chain, Retraced stood out.
“One of our wholesale clients, APG in Australia, asked us to join Retraced as a supplier. That’s how I first got a glimpse of the platform. It was intuitive and far easier to navigate than any other system I’d seen. The usability of the platform was a huge plus, not just for us but for our suppliers.”
Since onboarding began in early 2025, Liberty has used Retraced to centralize vendor data, manage complex supplier relationships, and begin mapping beyond Tier 1.
What Changed with Retraced?
“We’ve uploaded all 128 of our Tier 1 suppliers. That alone was a massive lift,” Stacey said. “We front-loaded the work, entering data ourselves to make it easier for our suppliers. It took weeks, but it made the transition smoother for everyone.”
Retraced also became a strategic tool for building future-ready processes. “We’re already shaping our strategy around what the platform enables, like capturing Tier 2 and trade union data,” she added. “That’s helping us prepare for digital product passports and potential EU regulations, even if we’re not affected yet.”
“Retraced has enabled us to manage data in a more uniform way and surface the information we need much faster. It’s helping us shape the future of our supply chain strategy, way beyond compliance.”
The team is now working on standard operating procedures to embed Retraced deeper into everyday workflows and scale the CSR function sustainably.
Supplier-Friendly by Design
Rather than adding pressure, Liberty used the platform rollout to improve how it works with suppliers.
“We’re part of the Ethical Trading Initiative and took a hard look at our own purchasing practices before we launched anything. We didn’t want to create more admin for suppliers. Retraced helps us reduce audit fatigue by giving partners one place to manage documentation and requests.”
The approach is already yielding soft benefits. “The fact that we haven’t had pushback from suppliers says a lot. On the wholesale side, customers have been pleased that we’re already on Retraced. We know how to respond quickly because we know the system.”
Community and Collaboration
An unexpected benefit has been access to the wider Retraced user community. “I joined one of the webinars and also met with other brands at an in-person session in London. That knowledge-sharing is something I really value. It’s great to hear how others are using the platform and to troubleshoot together.”
Looking Ahead: Tier 2, Grievance Mechanisms, and Data Readiness
Next up for Liberty is rolling out Tier 2 mapping and integrating data points like grievance mechanisms and trade union representation.Even though Liberty isn't currently bound by many EU regulations, they’re not standing still. “We know the regulatory landscape is changing fast. Retraced gives us the infrastructure to act when we need to.”
